Title: Developments in Texas Panhandle in 1952

Author(s): J. H. Tarver (2)

Abstract:

Drilling activity in the Texas Panhandle declined during 1952. Five hundred forty-eight wells were drilled during the year. Five hundred were drilled for development and 48 for exploration. Six new pools were discovered--three for gas and three for oil. Five of the discoveries were in the Anadarko basin and one was in the Dalhart basin. There were eleven successful outpost wells. Seven of these were gas extensions on the south flank of the Panhandle field. Normal decline of oil production in the Panhandle field dropped the production for the year to 29,129,817 barrels. Gas production was slightly less than the preceding year, measuring 1,068 billion cubic feet. Geophysical activity decreased to 741 crew-weeks. Leasing activity was light during 1952.
