Title: Developments in Colorado and Western Nebraska in 1954

Author(s): C. H. Ramsden (2), George R. Downs (3)

Abstract:

Drilling activity in the Colorado-western Nebraska area reached a new high, with 1,808 wells completed.

Colorado discoveries were largely confined to the Cretaceous of the Denver basin, with the productive trend being extended southward.

Other production was established at Greenwood in the Colorado part of the Hugoton embayment. Additional discoveries in the western part of the state were made at Danforth Hills, Moffat, Slater Dome, and Battleship.

Exploratory drilling in Colorado increased 75% over the previous year, while western Nebraska showed a 26% increase in the similar period.

Development drilling in the two states increased by 82%, the most significant development being the drilling of 168 wells at Adena.

Geophysical surveys in Colorado remained relatively constant while similar activity in Nebraska was curtailed.

Discovery methods in the area remained unchanged, with successes east of the Rockies largely based on seismic and subsurface work, while west of the mountains surface geology played a predominant role.

Leasing activity remained at a high level both following and in advance of indicated discoveries.
