Title: Developments in Eastern Canada in 1955

Author(s): W. D. Brittain (2), J. D. McAlary (3)

Abstract:

During 1955 both exploratory and development drilling kept pace with 1954 in southwestern Ontario. Production of oil amounted to 525,000 barrels during the year, an increase of 27% over 1954, while gas production increased approximately 4% over the previous year, for a total of 10,800,000 Mcf. Increased activity in offshore drilling in Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair yielded encouraging discoveries of Guelph gas.

In the Maritimes and the St Lawrence Lowlands of Quebec greater activity over 1954 was evident this past year in most phases of exploratory work, and in the Quebec area a shallow gas well with a daily open flow of 5,000 Mcf. was discovered near the city of Three Rivers.
