Abstract:
An increase in drilling activity and further development of secondary-recovery projects resulted in an increase in the total oil produced. There was a slight decline in gas production. There were 17,767,954 bbls. of oil and 72,500,000 MCF of gas produced in Kentucky in 1956. New discoveries included 27 new pools, 37 extensions of old pools, and 20 new pays in known producing areas. A new drilling-depth record was set by Shell Oil Company with its Mildred Davis No. 1 in Crittenden County. It was abandoned at total depth of 8,821 ft. in the Knox formation.
