Title: Oil and Gas Developments in Ohio in 1957

Author(s): Robert L. Alkire (2), Bernard A. Floto (2), Allan W. Johnson (3)

Abstract:

Although 98 less wells were drilled in 1957, as compared with 1956, initial production of both oil and gas increased. The Clinton sand continued to gain in the total number of completions as successful hydrafrac treatments reduced the dry hole average to a new low of 16.9%.

The most notable exploratory efforts during the year were the two Kewanee Oil Company test wells to the granite in Fayette County and the Benedum-Trees' Scribner oil discovery in Ashtabula County. The former tests were dry and the Scribner well has failed to produce as initially expected.
