During 1957 Arkansas drilling activity increased 9.2% over the previous year. Louisiana, however, had a 15.7% decrease in over-all drilling activity.
A total of 513 exploratory tests were completed, 271 in Arkansas and 242 in North Louisiana.
Exploratory drilling found 10 new fields in Arkansas and 17 in North Louisiana. An additional 49 successful exploratory wells of other classifications were completed during 1957: 28 in Arkansas and 21 in North Louisiana.
Geophysical activity in Arkansas increased 20.7% over 1956; North Louisiana showed a 2.4% decrease.
