Substantial increase in exploratory drilling in North Dakota during 1957 resulted in a success ratio of 19.8%
In Montana little change was noted in total holes drilled and the success ratio as compared with 1956. Crude production increased 5,356,000 bbls. in Montana and 1,692,000 bbls. in North Dakota over 1956. Pine Unit field of eastern Montana became the largest producer in the Williston basin, with a 1957 production of 5,347,608 bbls.
