Abstract:
Kentucky oil production in 1961 was 18,344,237 bbls., approximately 2,800,000 bbls. less than the preceding year. This reflects the decline in the Green-Taylor County area which produced about 3 million bbls. less than in 1960. Gas production declined slightly to 71,082,075 MCF. United Fuel Gas Company drilled basement tests in Elliot, Lewis, and Mason Counties. Additional deep tests were drilled or started in Bath, Carter, and Wolfe Counties by other operators. A little Knox oil production in Casey County caused some excitement, and stimulated additional Knox exploration in central Kentucky.
