Abstract:
This year, 1,146 wells were completed, of which 820 were successful and 326 dry, a percentage of 28.4 failures. A decrease is noted in Clinton tests but there was an offsetting increase in Berea completions.
Exploratory tests totaled 185, of which 69 were successful and 116 were failures. Again highlighting the exploratory drilling is the sub-Trenton activity with another new high established and an anticipated increase in 1963, due to recent discoveries in Morrow and Wayne Counties. Geological studies of sub-Trenton drillings have suggested that lower Ordovician and Cambrian formations here are more like those of the Appalachian area than formerly believed and nomenclature new to Ohio is being adopted (Table XI).
