Title: Developments in Indiana in 1962

Author(s): G. L. Carpenter (2)

Abstract:

Drilling in Indiana for 1962 increased by 191 wells over the number drilled in 1961. Production for the year amounted to an estimated 11,930,000 bbls.

Seventy-seven of the 569 exploratory wells were successful; 16 were completed as new-field discoveries, 41 as new-pool discoveries, and 20 as pool extensions.

Mississippian rocks were the principal objective of testing in the state during the year. Of the successful exploratory wells, 65 were completed in the Mississippian System, 8 in the Pennsylvania, 2 in the Devonian, and 2 in the Ordovician.

Although southwestern Indiana was the area of greatest activity during the year, considerable interest was evidenced in northern Indiana, where 2 small gas wells and 1 small oil well were completed.
