Title: Developments in West-Central Texas in 1962

Author(s): W. A. Womack (2)

Abstract:

Total drilling activity increased 0.4% in 1962. In 1961 a total of 1,589 wells were drilled as compared with 1,664 wells in 1962. Exploratory wells totaled 430, an increase of 1% from the 388 of the previous year. Development drilling during 1962 increased 1% with 1,234 wells as compared with 1,201 wells in 1961.

Total oil production decreased 4% from 44,040,445 bbls. produced in 1961 to 42,213,009 bbls. in 1962. This decline in oil production is due to a decrease from 99 producing days in 1961 to 97 producing days in 1962.

Geophysical activity increased slightly with a total of 111 crew-weeks in 1961 as compared with 119 crew-weeks for 1962. Technical methods were credited with the majority of new discoveries.
