Title: Facies Variation in Mississippian of Elbow Valley Area, Alberta, Canada

Author(s): G. V. Middleton (2)

Abstract:

Detailed lithofacies analysis and study of sedimentary structures establish NW-SE to NNW-SSE trends of sedimentation in the Mississippian of the Elbow Valley area, with shallower water and more restricted sedimentation generally on the east or northeast. The top of the Banff argillaceous facies is diachronous, being lower on the east than on the west. The Livingstone Formation in the mountains is not correlative with the Turner Valley and Pekisko Formations of the foothills as believed by Douglas (1958), but only with the Turner Valley Formation.
