Abstract:
The total of wells drilled in South Texas in 1963 decreased by 4.6% from 1962. Development drilling decreased by 9%; however, exploratory drilling increased by 8.3%. Wildcat discoveries were 2.4% less than 1962. The wildcat success ratio of 1:6.5 was about the same as in 1962. Oil production increased by 6.6% over 1962, while gas production remained about the same. The deep Wilcox trend continued to command attention. Deep Wilcox discoveries in Bee, DeWitt, and Duval Counties give promise of being major fields. Geophysical activity showed a marked increase of 20.8% over 1962. The largest increase was in seismic activity in the Paleozoic trend.
