Abstract:
Exploratory and development drilling activity was 20% below that of 1962. There were 992 wells drilled or 248 less than in 1962.
Exploratory drilling totaled 260 wells, of which 15% were successful. There were 13 new fields discovered and 15 successful field extensions.
Geophysical activity totaled 1581 crew-weeks, an increase of 159 crew-weeks from the previous year. Gravity work decreased from 20 crew-weeks in 1962 to 15 crew-weeks in 1963. Core-drill activity totaled 9 crew-weeks, 2 less than in 1962.
The counties experiencing the largest lease plays were Houston, Angelina, and Wood.
