Oil production in non-Communist countries of the Far East increased from 600,448 b/d in 1963 to 695,718 b/d in 1964, with notable gains reported in Indonesia, India and Brunei-Malaysia. Throughout the region exploratory and drilling activity expanded markedly In ail, 400 party-months of exploration, excluding wildcat drilling, were carried out in 1964 and at least 353 development and exploratory wells were drilled, with a combined footage in excess of 1,600,000 ft. In Taiwan, where the deepest test in the Far East was completed as an oil well, the largest percentage increase in crude and gas production also was reported.
