Abstract:

Petroleos Mexicanos increased drilling activities in Mexico during 1967; 499 wells were drilled, 203 more wells than the previous year. Of the 499 wells, 135 were classified as exploratory wells and 364 as development wells. The total footage drilled was 3,913,398, of which 1,292,553 was in exploratory wells. The average footage drilled per exploratory well was 9,574, and for development 7,200; in 1966 the total footage was 2,276,412, of which 1,338,125 was for exploratory wells.

Exploratory crews:
Twenty-one surface geological parties, 11 subsurface geological parties, 23 seismic parties, 2 gravimetric parties, and 1 Previous HitmagnetometricTop party operated throughout 1967. Also a marine seismic party operated during 3 months.

Exploratory drilling:
Of the 135 exploratory wells drilled in 1967, 73 were new-field wildcats which resulted in the discovery of 13 new oil or/and gas fields, a success percentage of 17.8. Of the remaining 62 exploratory wells, 60 were new-pool or deeper pool wildcats and extension wells, the other 2 wells were drilled to obtain information in possible producing areas.

Annual production:
The annual production of crude oil and distillate was 149,924,037 bbl, an increase of 11.3% from the previous year.

The annual production of gas was 572,839 Mcf, an increase of 8.3% from 1966.

Reserves:
At the beginning of 1968, proved reserves of oil and gas (thermal equivalent) were 5,485,886 million bbl, an increase of 128,925,000 bbl, from 1966.
