Abstract:
Only 2 wells, both unsuccessful new-field wildcats, were drilled in Washington. Total exploratory footage decreased to 5,129. There was no exploratory drilling nor was there geophysical activity of any kind in Oregon. In California a total of 1,967,242 ft of hole was drilled in 329 exploratory wells. The average footage per exploratory well was 5,979. Three new fields (1 oil and 2 gas) were discovered. Exploratory drilling was 7.0 and 5.2% successful in number of wells drilled and footage, respectively. Thirty coreholes, 13 onshore and 17 offshore, were drilled for a total 244,805 ft. Well completions, including development wells, were 2,452, down 7.7% from 1967.
