Abstract:
In the Rumanian Pliocene, two distinct types of oil are present in two distinct formations: paraffinous in the lower Pliocene Meotic, and nonparaffinous in the upper Pliocene Dacic. The Meotic is generally oil bearing where structural conditions are favorable, but the Dacic contains oil only along a narrow trend extending lengthwise in the basin, south of which it contains during Levantine deposition. The nature of the oil occurrences justifies the conclusion that the oils are indigenous to the Pliocene. The Rumanian Pliocene would be an interesting subject for research on the origin of oil.
