Title: Magnetic and Seismic Reflection Studies on Continental Shelf off Portuguese Guinea, Guinea, and Sierra Leone, West Africa

Author(s): Robert L. McMaster (2), Jelle De Boer (3), Asaf Ashraf (2)

Abstract:

Seaborne magnetometer and continuous seismic reflection profiling surveys were conducted on the West African continental shelf between lat. 8° and 12°N. The differences in the shelf's magnetic grain result from a seaward continuation of the Liberian uplift. A change in magnetic pattern occurs southwest of Cape Verga where the Liberian block probably is downfaulted toward the Senegal basin. Abrupt change of the magnetic patterns at the shelf edge (lat. 9°N) indicates the presence of the Guinea fracture zone.
