Title: Lake Maracaibo and Weddell Sea: Comparison in Petroleum Geology

Author(s): W. G. Deuser (2)

Abstract:

The present structure of the Weddell Sea is very similar to that of the Maracaibo basin during mid-Tertiary time. Comparisons of late Mesozoic and early Tertiary sedimentation in the two regions and of their subsequent geologic development suggest that the Weddell Sea may be an area of important oil reserves.
