Abstract:
An exploration program was underway in the Nemaha anticline area of northeastern Kansas in 1970. The feasibility of storing atomic waste material in Permian salt beds in Rice County, Kansas, was the subject of an intensive study. Drilling for oil and gas dropped sharply in Kansas, to 2,465 wells reported. Crude oil production was down 4% from 1969, to 84,812,361 bbl, and natural gas production reached an all-time high of 909 MMcf. The Forest City basin had exploratory drilling in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska.
