Title: Ubatuba Lineament: Identification of New Predrift Feature: GEOLOGIC NOTE

Author(s): Peter Rideg (2)

Abstract:

Four large-scale structural lineaments (collectively referred to as the Ubatuba lineament) on the continents and continental margins of Brazil (Sao Paulo) and Angola may be related genetically through an ancient zone of weakness reactivated during rifting of the continents. The Ubatuba lineament appears to have controlled, at least locally, the geometry of the rift along which the continents separated. North and south of the easterly trending Ubatuba lineament, rifting seemed to have followed old northeast-trending faults parallel with the regional structural grain of the coastal belts of the continents.
