Title: Continental Drift and Scientific Revolution

Author(s): David B. Kitts (2)

Abstract:

Some authors have suggested that the earth sciences are in the midst of a scientific revolution of the kind characterized by Thomas Kuhn. The shift in opinion concerning continental drift during the past decade has many of the features identified by Kuhn as characteristic of scientific revolutions. There are other features, relating to the historical character of earth science, which clearly distinguish the recent events in geology and geophysics from the revolutions described by Kuhn.
