Abstract:
The Ocala "uplift" long has been known to be an unusual anticline, with structural closure on shallow beds, but none at depth. Stratigraphic study of the Eocene section in north Florida revealed an anomalous thickening of the Lake City Formation beneath the crest of the Ocala feature. This thickening, followed by eastward regional tilting, could have produced the abnormal characteristics of the feature. As no uplift or folding has occurred, the Ocala "uplift" should be redesignated the Ocala "blister dome."
