Abstract:
Oxygen isotopic research has led to the subdivision of the Brunhes Epoch into nine climatic cycles. Because stratigraphic subdivisions classically are based on marine fossils, we present here a parallel subdivision into four zones based on nannofossil distributions and successions in Atlantic and Pacific deepsea cores. Both the climatic and the biostratigraphic zonation appear to have worldwide validity.
