Abstract:
A new stratigraphic unit of Morrowan age, the Osha Canyon Formation, in north-central New Mexico is named and described. This formation, at the type section, consists of 71 ft (22 m) of fossiliferous limestone and shale that is lithologically and faunally distinct from units above and below. The Osha Canyon Formation currently is being mapped as a separate unit in the Nacimiento Mountains; its recognition aids in regional paleotectonic and paleogeographic reconstructions.
