Abstract:
On April 9, 1976, the Landsat 2 satellite made one of its many passes over the Mississippi delta and offshore. A composite image made captures the complex interplay of major dynamic processes at an instant of geologic time. The vivid color contrast and spatial detail of the image permit the user easily to expand the time frame by several orders of magnitude. With a minimum of geologic imagination one can develop a clear mental picture of the complex processes related to the construction of a delta complex, a major depocenter, on a low-energy coast.
