Abstract:
Upper Jurassic (Kimmeridgian) sandstone and siltstone dredged from a probable submerged marine terrace near St. George Island (Pribilof Islands) in the southern Bering Sea are correlative with the upper part of the Naknek Formation exposed on the Alaska Peninsula and with rocks dredged from the continental slope. The rocks have higher percentages of volcanic components than those of the Naknek Formation collected from the Alaska Peninsula. This discovery increases the known regional extent of Upper Jurassic rocks and suggests that they underlie a large part of the continental margin in the St. George Basin region of the southern Bering Sea.
