Abstract:
Drilling in the northern Rockies was at another all-time high during 1982 when 4,136 wells were completed compared with 3,560 wells during 1981. Exploratory drilling resulted in 459 successes, of which 340 were oil and 119 gas. Development drilling resulted in 1,952 successes and 604 dry holes for a development total of 2,556 wells.
Decreased oil prices and oversupply of natural gas resulted in a sharp decline in drilling in the last half of 1982.
