Title: Oil and Gas Developments in Oklahoma and Panhandle of Texas in 1984

Author(s): Robert A. Northcutt (2)

Abstract:

In 1984, the number of wells drilled in Oklahoma and the Panhandle of Texas increased 2.1%, recovering slightly from the precipitous drop in 1983. Exploratory tests continued to decrease, falling 8.5% from 1983 levels, but a slight increase of 2.6% was made in the number of development wells. Success rates for exploratory tests fell to 28.9% and increased slightly for development wells to 76.2%. Deep drilling virtually ceased with only 3 wells drilled below 20,000 ft. Of the 11,272 wells drilled in the province, 22 successful exploratory wells are considered especially significant. Both oil and gas production in the province increased in 1984.
