Title: Oil and Gas Developments in South Texas in 1987

Author(s): John H. Morris (2), Andrew M. Raring (3)

Abstract:

Exploratory drilling in south Texas (Texas Railroad Commission--RRC--Districts 1, 2, and 4) in 1987 was down 33% from 1986 levels; development drilling fell 44%. Continued expansion of the Taylor sand play in RRC District 1 resulted in one of the most actively drilled fields in the country. Activity in the Yegua and Wilcox/Eocene sand play resulted in a total of 21 new-field discoveries. Frio exploratory drilling plunged 42% but still finished the year with 11 new-field discoveries.
