Title: Oil and Gas Developments in Eastern and Northwestern Colorado in 1989

Author(s): Linda Glenister Lehrer (2), Lawrence D. Ligrani (3)

Abstract:

Drilling activity in eastern and northwestern Colorado was down dramatically in 1989 with 678 wells drilled in the area, a 26% decrease in drilling from 922 wells in 1988. Forty percent of the total, or 270 wells, were exploratory tests with a success rate of 19%, slightly less than the 20% success rate in 1988.

Activity in eastern Colorado focused on the Pennsylvanian Morrow along the Las Animas arch and the Cretaceous D and J sandstones in the Denver basin. Exploration targets in the northwestern portion of the state were primarily Cretaceous and Pennsylvanian.
