Title: Oil and Gas Developments in Middle East in 1989

Abstract:

Petroleum production in Middle East countries during 1989 totaled an estimated 5,729,167,000 bbl (an average rate of 15,696,348 b/d), up 7.1% from the revised 1988 total of 5,348,633,000 bbl. Substantial increases in production were made in Iran, the Kuwait-Saudi Arabia Divided Neutral Zone, Qatar, Syria, Turkey, Abu Dhabi, and Yemen Arab Republic. Exploration activity continued at a rapid pace in Syria, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, People's Democratic Republic of Yemen, Yemen Arab Republic, Jordan, and Oman; whereas in Qatar, United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait, the level stabilized. Significant new oil discoveries were made in Saudi Arabia and Syria. Iraq, Yemen Arab Republic, Oman, and Abu Dhabi also reported several new finds.
