We thank Machel (1998a) for his expansive discussion of our paper (Worden
et al., 1995) and the temperature at which thermochemical sulfate reduction
(TSR) becomes significant. Machels discussion is along very similar lines
to a previous discussion paper, to which we replied (Machel, 1998b; Worden
et al., 1998).
