Total porosity of all of the samples measured by lithofacies. The median ϕt of the siliciclastic mudstones (i.e., organic-rich siliceous mudstone and argillaceous mudstone) is ϕms = 12.4%, whereas that of the carbonates is ϕc = 3.5%. For each lithofacies, the top and bottom lines represent the maximum and minimum values, respectively. The top and bottom edges of the gray box mark the first and third percentiles, respectively. The median value is the horizontal line within the box. Values that fall beyond the lower limit (25th percentile − 1.5 × interquartile range) and the upper limit (75th percentile + 1.5 × interquartile range) represent outliers. The is the sum of both the helium-derived porosity and the nuclear magnetic resonance–derived porosity (see also Table A1, supplementary material available as AAPG Datashare 178 at www.aapg.org/datashare). n = number of samples.
