Abstract
Turbidity Currents and the Cardium Formation*
ABSTRACT
Field observations in the Alberta Foothills indicate that the Cardium and Bad-heart sandstones (Upper Cretaceous) were formed as beach and delta deposits. This is in agreement with conclusions reached by DeWiel (1956) for the equivalent subsands. Evidence suggests that the Cardium and other sand tongues of the late Cretaceous of the Foothills cannot be attributed to the action of the turbidity currents as put forward by F. K. Beach (1955). The Cardium can be compared with similar Cretaceous sandstones in Utah.
