Stratigraphic Position of the Viking Sand

C. R. Stelck

ABSTRACT

The Viking formation of the Alberta Plains belongs to the lower portion of the Upper Albian substage of the Lower Cretaceous. The Viking correlates with part of an erosional hiatus betwen the Lower and Upper Blairmore formations in the Rocky Mountain Foothills. Distribution of late Lower Cretaceous seas in Western Canada is shown on paleogeographic maps.
