Geometry of Oil and Gas Accumulations Associated with the Edmonton Reef Chain in Central Alberta

E. L. Herbaly

ABSTRACT

The oil and gas fields along the Edmonton reef chain show the following complex stratigraphic relationships which control the entrapment of hydrocarbons:

  1. Devonian reefs
  2. Structural closure in sediments above the reefs
  3. Variations in porosity
  4. Truncated edges of Missippian unit
  5. lenticular Cretaceous sands
