Theory of Rock Movement on Scree Slopes

Adrian E. Scheidegger

ABSTRACT

The phenomenon of dry rock movement on scree slopes is investigated. The generally held assumption that such movement is caused by the volume expansion and contraction due to daily and seasonal temperature fluctuations is analysed. It is shown that a reasonable physical theory can be based upon this assumption.
