Micro-Gravimetric Measurements Over a Known Geologic Structure
ABSTRACT
Micro-gravimetric surveys with individual station spacings of 100 feet and less have been mentioned in the relevant literature only very occasionally (Thyssen-Bornemisa, 1937; Hammer, Nettelton and Hastings, 1945; Thyssen-Bornemisa and Stackler, 1960). Useful gravitational results are expected from this kind of work only in special situations. However, there seem to be near-surface geological problems which possibly could have a quick and ingenious solution by the application of micro-gravimetric surveys if carried out at an accuracy of 0.01 mgls. and better. This is very possible with today's modern gravimeters. In the following text we shall refer to an interesting experiment concerning two different types of gravitational effects taken over the Turner Valley Structure of Alberta.
