The Peripheral Rim Effect of the Sturgeon Lake Atoll, Alberta

G. R. Morgan

ABSTRACT

The initiation of reefing at Sturgeon Lake was stimulated by differential subsidence on the edges of a stable platform. Subsequent adjustment has resulted in a raised peripheral rim. Influence of the rim is seen in post-Mississippian beds which also give clues to the method of its formation. Structure associated with the rim appears to have affected the distribution of hydrocarbons in these beds.
