Abstract
Abstracts of Theses: Geochemistry of Groundwater in the Upper Notukeu Creek Area, Southwestern Saskatchewan
Groundwater in the Upper Notukeu Creek area consists basically of four chemical types which are correlated to sediments within the Upper Cretaceous, Tertiary, and Pleistocene. Depending on the predominant ions present, these chemical types are calcium-magnesium sulfate, calcium-magnesium bicarbonate, sodium bicarbonate, and sodium sulfate.
The significant geochemical processes are solution of carbonates and sulphates and cation exchange. The effect of these processes on the genesis of the chemical character of the groundwater is best understood by considering groundwater movement.
