An Estimate of the Conventional Crude-Oil Potential in Alberta

J. T. Ryan

ABSTRACT

This paper presents an estimate of the potential conventional crude-oil reserves in Alberta. The projections are based on appreciated reserve data and an analytical technique previously published. Estimates of conventional recoverable reserves range between 13 and 14.8 billion barrels and the oil-in-place reserves between 38 and 42 billion barrels. The corresponding discovery rate in the future is estimated to be approximately 100 million recoverable barrels per year under existing economic conditions.
