Abstract
The Presqu'Ile Complex -- Implications for Middle Devonian Paleogeography of Northern Alberta and British Columbia
ABSTRACT
Sequences of pelmicrite, fenestrate fabric, and nodular anhydrite that occur throughout the Muskeg Formation in the Presqu'ile Complex are typical sabkha deposits. Tidal channels through the narrow, northwest-facing Presqu'ile reef front fed backreef sabkhas in British Columbia. A passive reef facies formed contemporaneously in shallow, quiet water along the southeast side of this barrier complex facing the Elk Point Basin. This reconstruction of the Presqu'ile Complex implies that at least part of the well-laminated Muskeg evaporites in Alberta was deposited subtidally.
