Structural Geology of the Colville Hills

J. W. Davis, R. Willott

ABSTRACT

An evaluation of geological and geophysical data available for the Colville Hills has resulted in the development of a regional structural model for interpreting the observed faults and flexures. These structures are considered to be the result of periodic movement along a regional system of basement-controlled, strike-slip faults rather than the result of decollement-type tectonics as previously supposed. This conclusion is based on knowledge of the geometry of these structures gained from a synthesis of drilling, field, photogeologic, seismic, gravity and magnetic data compiled while evaluating the hydrocarbon potential of this region.
