Abstract
Foraminiferal Biostratigraphy, Rundle Group, Lower Carboniferous, East-Central British Columbia
ABSTRACT
Four sections of the Rundle Group have been systematically sampled for foraminifers in the Sukunka River headwaters, British Columbia. More than one hundred taxa of endothyrids, incertae sedis and algae are recognized in shallow water carbonates. The Pekisko Formation is Late Tournaisian (Zone 8), the Shunda Formation (and its equivalent, the "Shunda" Formation) is Late Tournaisian and grades into the base of the earliest Visean (zones 8 and 9, basal Zone 10). The Turner Valley Formation is earliest Visean (Zone 10) and the base of the Mount Head Formation is Early Visean (Zone 11). These ages are similar to those known in northeastern British Columbia and in southwestern Alberta. The Sukunka headwaters fauna is characteristic of the Kuznets - North American realm: foraminifers are quite abundant but somewhat undiversified.
