Seismic Expression of Salt Dissolution-Related Features in the North Sea

Malcolm K. Jenyon

ABSTRACT

Several salt dissolution-related collapse structures from the Mid North Sea High area are described and illustrated. Comments are made regarding the implications of these features in the study of paleophysiography and depositional environments during the Zechstein (Late Permian) period. Certain salt-edge drape structures have a general resemblance to similar features observed near the margins of the Williston Basin in Canada and the northern U.S.A.; the significance of these and other features from the viewpoint of hydrocarbon entrapment is discussed.
