Petroleum Resource Estimations - an Overview [Abstract]

Lee, P.J.1

ABSTRACT

Geologists, geochemists, and statisticians have performed petroleum resource estimations for many decades. The procedure for resource evaluation varies greatly because of different statistical, geochemical, and geological perspectives. Consequently, a variety of methods have been developed in past years. Methods that have been published and have significant influence on the subsequent developments are described as follows:

Specific data and assumptions can be applied to each of these ten methods. Some of the assumptions can be verified by resultant data and others cannot. All of these methods have their own merits and disadvantages. The approach using the Discovery Process Model, for example, has a long history of development, and does not only account for all available information, but also links geochemical data as an Previous HitintegralTop component.
