Abstract
Late Carboniferous and Early Permian Algal Microflora (Liuzhou, South China)
ABSTRACT
The role of calcareous algae in sedimentation is studied in a continuous sequence of the Maping Limestone (South China). The beresellid algae are important builders in the Late Carboniferous and the Tubiphytes-Archaeolithophyllum community is locally replaced by a Tubiphytes-Ungdarella association. Early Permian oncolites were formed by complex Osagia, then by Ellesmerella. The Asselian Sphaeroschwagerina fauna is underlined by the outburst of epimastoporid dasycladales and phylloid Anchicodiaceae. Microcodium is observed at the contact of the Sphaeroschwagerina moelleri/sphaerica Zones. The overlying and paraconformable Chihsia Limestone is characterized by a Gymnocodium-Gyroporella-Mizzia flora. In most cases, the base of the fusulinid zones, therefore, coincides with an important local floristic change.
RESUME
Le role des Algues calcaires dans la sedimentation est etudie dans une section continue du Calcaire de Maping (Chine du Sud). Les Bereselles sont particulierement importantes dans le Carbonifere Superieur et la communaute a Tubiphytes-Archaeolithophyllum est ici remplacee par une association de Tubiphytes-Ungdarella. Les oncolithes du Permien inferieur sont composees d'Osagia complexes et d'Ellesmerella. La faune asselienne a Sphaeroschwagerina est soulignee par l'entree de nombreuses Dasycladales epimastoporides et par des Anchicodiacees phylloides. Microcodium s'observe au contact des Zones a Sphaeroschwagerina moelleri et S. sphaerica. Le Calcaire de Chihsia repose en paraconformite sur le Maping et est caracterise par la flore a Gymnocodium-Gyroporella-Mizzia. Dans la plupart des cas, la base des Zones de Fusulines coincide donc avec un changement floristique important.
