Graptolite occurrences in the Borschov horizon of Podolia
Abstract
During recent studies of the Borschov horizon in Podolia, three dimensional and flat rhabdosomes of the Monograptus angustidens Pribyl-Monograptus uniformis Pribyl phylogenetic lineage were found.
The lower boundary of the zone of Monograptus uniformis s.l. coincides with the base of the Borschov horizon (bottom of the Taina beds). The top of the horizon is tentatively drawn 160 m. above the base on the basis of M. ex. gr. uniformis.
Study of the Podolian graptolites indicates that the phylogenetic lineage M. angustidens - M. uniformis cannot be subdivided and hence two separate zones cannot be established. The Silurian-Devonian boundary in Podolia may therefore be drawn at the base or at the top of the Taina beds.
